Community Resource Center

United Way's Community Resources Center bridges hope and community service for southeast Mississippi.  We can help connect you with the right human service agency to serve your needs through our Information and Referral program.  Three additional  programs are offered through the Community Resource Center including: Workforce Assistance, Family Emergency and the Community Care Council.

United Way for Jackson & George Counties' Community Resource Center helped 133 families and individuals with $44,095.89 of assistance in 2010. The Center provided over 500 referrals to local health and human service agencies.

For more information about a local health and human service agency or to apply for one of the assistance programs below, please contact United Way's Community Resource Center at 228.762.7662.

Workforce Assistance

United Way created this program to more fully meet the needs of the workforce in Jackson and George counties. While looking for areas of unmet need, United Way found that some working people were falling through the cracks when turning to local agencies for assistance. United Way uses a portion of the money raised in its annual campaign to fund this program and provide assistance to working individuals who are facing temporary emergency situations and may not qualify for aid at other health and human service agencies. Receiving this assistance allows hard working men and women make ends meet and return to the workforce in order to maintain their current level of productiveness.

To apply, applicants must be currently employed and working 32 hours or more each week, have a temporary emergency situation and currently live or work in Jackson or George counties.  This program does not suppliment any other available resources and adheres to specific guidelines.

Family Emergency

The Family Emergency program is available to residents of Jackson and George counties who are currently receiving disability, social security or have applied for disability benefits and are facing a temporary emergency requiring assistance for basic needs items. The individual must provide proof of income and residency.

Community Care Council

This program brings together area non-profit health and human service agencies in order to work towards community-building and problem solving.  The group meets at the United Way office bi-monthly with different speakers and programs for each meeting.  Attendees are encouraged to bring questions or offer ideas on how to better collaborate services being offered in Jackson and George counties.
